Medicine &
Rescue

Rescue and first response in the Stanton system: a Cutlass Red as rescue ship, the hospital ship Goodwill as base in orbit around Yela, and an emergency channel that is staffed.

What Medical does

Medical takes emergency calls, flies to the injured, treats them on board and brings them to where they can be treated further. In the game that means: rescue beacons, stranded crews in wrecks, on moons and at stations, first aid in the Red, surgery and aftercare on the Goodwill – and the handover to Orison General when it takes more than we can provide on board.

The people behind it

Tasks

Three things Medical does

01 / MEDICAL

Emergency call and rescue flight

The Group's emergency channel is staffed. When a call comes in, we establish position, people on board and condition – and we fly even when the details are incomplete or contradictory. In the belt of Yela that means: keep your distance, tether, cross over.

02 / MEDICAL

Care on board

The Red has two treatment beds for the flight back. On the Goodwill, an Endeavor of the Hope class, scanners, beds and an operating room are waiting, where Dr. Alice Cordell operates. Of the ship's two operating rooms, one is in service; the second stays closed until a second team can stand in it.

03 / MEDICAL

Handover to Orison

What we cannot provide on board goes to Orison General on the Cloudview Center – as does every patient when our operating room is not staffed. We call the patient in from the jump, hand over at the ambulance pad and stay reachable for relatives and aftercare.

The people

Who flies, who stays

Dr. Kyle Reece leads the missions and on a job is the doctor who goes through the airlock first. Dr. Alice Cordell, trauma surgeon, is the chief physician aboard the Goodwill: she decides what is done in her operating room, and usually has it running before the Red is back. Myra Voss, thirteen years of ambulance service in Orison, keeps in touch with relatives, scrubs in for surgery and counts the fasteners before every launch. Craig Harker flies the Red: nineteen years of Navy, precise under pressure, and he keeps his distance where others would go closer.
